| The third question of Fatwa no. 2586 Q 3: Is it permissible to eat rats, poisonous snakes, monkeys and snails? A: It is impermissible to eat rats, poisonous snakes or monkeys, as they are beasts of prey, while the Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited eating any fanged beast of prey, and because they are foul. Allah (Exalted be He) says about the Prophet (peace be upon him),  ...he allows them as lawful At-Tayyibât (i.e. all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods), and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khabâ’ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods) | | (Part No. 22; Page No. 293) | |
As for snails, they are permissible to eat, because they are sea game, so they are included in Allah's saying, Lawful to you is (the pursuit of) water-game and its use for food - for the benefit of yourselves and those who travelMay Allah grant us success.
